That said, the umpire will typically become part of an appraisal panel, consisting of the umpire, as well as representatives for both the insured and the insurance company.  Only two of the three members need to agree to resolve the claim.

In most cases, the appraiser for the insurance company and your appraiser, will both have lists of acceptable umpire candidates. They normally share their lists and agree to a mutual and acceptable umpire in the event they are not able to reach an agreement.
